Our own research has led us to believe that this painting was painted in Claverdon, Warwickshire, by Ernest Lucas (1878-1951). He was a head teacher at Claverdon School. While in Claverdon, Ernest had time to paint which was his passion. His paintings were popular with American clients. He was married to well known local suffragette, Cicely Lucas (Nee Neale).
The gilding has signs of wear and tear, however we feel this adds to the rustic charm and character of the painting. Previous repair to rear canvas. Photos form part of description.
